Odyssey to Athens

AHEPA and Webster university Athens, Odyssey in Athens Undergraduate & Graduate
Study Abroad Program
50% off Tuition for Ahepa family members
For a Session, Semester or a Whole Year in Athens, Greece

We would like to invite you to a Session, semester or year in Athens, Greece with Webster University, Odyssey in Athens Study Abroad Program. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges accredits Webster University, which is consistently ranked as a Top Tier University by the US News & World Report. Further, prestigious accreditation bodies in their respective fields accredit the various schools/departments/programs of Webster University.

We are very happy to announce that all AHEPA members, Sons of Pericles and Daughters of Pinelope are eligible for these special scholarships established for the Odyssey in Athens study abroad program. AHEPA and Webster Athens will be granting 50% off Tuition for Ahepa family members for AHEPA students who want to experience a session, semester or year with the Odyssey program in Athens.

The benefits of studying in Athens are many, as you will be able to:

  • Improve your Greek language skills!!
  • Take courses that will transfer back to your home institution
  • Continue your program of study by choosing from a variety of courses offered each semester.
  • Travel within Greece through the Odyssey excursions and experience more of Europe through personal travel.
  • Make Greek and other international friends.

Students from over 120 colleges and universities in the US with a variety of majors have attended the Odyssey in Athens Study Abroad Program. All course work completed in Athens is transferred from the Registrar's office in St. Louis to your home institution in the form of a transcript. All courses are taught in English. To get an idea of the courses offered, you can go to the Webster University web site at:  www.webster.edu

One factor that distinguishes the Odyssey program is the variety of courses to choose from. Students can select from a variety of courses offered and not interrupt their program of study. Also, because the Odyssey students interact with Greek and other international students on a daily basis in and out of class, this helps increase their cultural integration. Odyssey students have made long-lasting friendships with their international classmates and many stay in touch even after years have passed.

Most of the Odyssey students take advantage of the Greek language, Greek Culture and Society, Greek Art and Archaeology or the Ambassador' s Forum course, which is an innovative course offered only at the Athens Campus. The Forum offers the rare opportunity to students majoring in International Relations, Political and Social Sciences, and Communications to attend lectures given by Ambassadors from various countries who know Diplomacy and International Relations best. The program has been running with increasing success for eight consecutive years and students from multi-cultural backgrounds have enthusiastically attended it. Over two hundred Ambassadors in Athens have honored the Forum and contributed to its success. The Ambassadors Forum takes place at the Webster Athens Cultural Center (pictured above).

However, students also come over and take courses in their chosen fields, like business, computer science, psychology, etc. There is no need to know the Greek language. The majority of students who come over do not know one word of Greek, but they do learn some while they are here – whether they learn it in class or outside of class. Because we are located in the Plaka area –right below the acropolis- many people speak English.

Since the tuition is covered by the AHEPA and Webster University Athens Tuition Scholarship Fund, the student would only need to cover housing and fees, plus the $450.00 housing security deposit which is returned at the end of the semester and the $150.00 application fee when you turn in your application. For example the semester program fee includes tuition of up to 17 undergraduate and up to 11 graduate credits, housing, excursions, airport-pick-up, orientation, library, computer lab, transcript and student support services. Airfare, books, insurance for health, accident, etc, food and supplies and other travel is on your own.

The university housing is very nice. It is in the Plaka area -where the university is located. The apartments are fully furnished with refrigerator, stove, washing machine, cooking utensils, pots, pans, dishes, beds, desks, AC, ADSL wireless internet service, etc ... The apartments are walking distance to the school and are in a safe area.

In the immediate vicinity of the apartments are the University facilities (with classrooms, computer lab- the library and cultural center is a 5 minute walk), banks, post offices, grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, souvenir stores, hotels, and the main shopping district in Athens – Ermou Street. Everything is within walking distance, including the public transportation system –- metro, tram, buses, etc. -- which is a 5 minutes walk.

One of the highlights of the program is the excursions around Greece. Some of the sites visited have been Ancient Olympia, Delphi, Mycenae and Corinth in addition to Nafplio, Epidavros, Meteora (famous Byzantine Monasteries), Sparti-Mystras (Byzantine city) and Monemvasia (Byzantine town). Also, the students have traveled to nearby islands of Hydra, Aegena, Poros and Spetes on one day islands trips. This is just to give you an idea of some of the sites visited.

In addition the Odyssey students have participated in the various activities from traditional Greek dancing and Greek cooking classes to the Community Service learning course where they volunteered at various sites around Athens, such as a refugee center and a rescue center for injured sea turtles. This was really a unique experience for some of them. Some of them even took advantage of a unique Scuba diving course offered only at  Webster University Athens.
